Welcome to our Technology Discussion PBwiki!
This page was created to help us brainstorm what technology equipment and software the department needs for the upcoming academic year. Everybody can edit the page and contribute with ideas until we finalize the list that Karen can then submit. Let's keep the site neat and organized.
What technology would make our teaching more effective?
Please add your recommendations.

to add to the microphone discussion, I would like to say that a lapel microphone would be great.

Pasteboard Pro
http://pth.com/products/pthpasteboard/pro/
PTHPasteboard is a simple but powerful automatic multiple pasteboard: basically, every time you choose Copy or Cut in any application, PTHPasteboard remembers the clipboard contents, so that you can later paste that item even though you have subsequently tromped on the system clipboard with another Copy or Cut. With PTHPasteboard, it becomes trivially easy to collect multiple items from one place or many places and paste them separately elsewhere; unless you've experienced it, you may not realize how much easier your entire workflow becomes when suddenly there is no need to plan or hesitate before copying, because all your recently copied items are available to you, everywhere, all the time.
Typeinator
http://www.ergonis.com/
Typinator is an automatic text software that boosts your productivity and eliminates errors by automating the process of inserting frequently used text and graphics and auto-correcting typing errors. With thousands of pre-defined corrections for common typos and misspelled words for the languages English, German, and French, Typinator is not only just a typing assistant that speeds repetitive typing tasks, but also a system-wide auto-correction tool that automatically fixes typing errors and misspelled words. The auto-correction sets have been carefully designed and optimized even for those who write text in multiple languages.
SnapzProX
http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/snapzprox/
SnapzProX works similarly to iShowU and has similar reviews. Essentially, there are only two reputable screen capture tools for Mac: SnapzProX and iShowU. They allow one to capture stills and motion with added capability to capture video (screen) so that one could demonstrate an essay, a utility, a webpage, etc. This would be helpful for those who teach online or who use online components with their courses. I am mostly interested in the video capture aspect of the program so that I can provide presentations of esssays that have been effective for my courses. Of course, there would be other uses, but this is my primary reason for seeking such a program.

Typeitin
http://www.wavget.com/typeitin.html
This is a very practical form filling program. Right click on a button to pop up the Button Menu. From here you can create new buttons, edit existing ones, or delete buttons. You can also change the button font and the button width.
In the professional version you can also copy or move a button to another group. The tray popup menu gives you access to the help file and the TypeItIn? web site. In the professional version you can use the group options menu to create, edit, and delete groups. You can also password protect groups that contain sensitive information like logins or credit card numbers.
Grade Eaze
http://www.rwjacksons.com/GradeEaze?.html
As an instructor, teacher or professor, grading should aid communication. But too often you end up wasting time saying the same thing over and over. Streamline your grading by inserting the most often said comments, freeing you up to write specific, meaningful feedback. With a click of the mouse, you can insert a string of comments (URLs, images, etc) you have created directly into a student's submission.
Grademark
Turnitin, the plagiarism detection service, has, for an additional fee, a program called Grademark. It comes with the standard comments and can also be adapted to include your own. It is pretty slick and was easy for me to get used to using. http://turnitin.com/static/grademark.html

PODCASTING
Here are some tutorials that are pretty easy to follow and helpful in getting you started podcasting - I think this is the future for education because it allows the student to now "take away" items from the classroom and listen at their leisure/most opportune moment.
